The opening episode of the eighth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sunday did not impress much after the hype it created before its launch. The television premiere of the new season, hosted in a stadium in Surat, offered more than a hearty dose of song-and-dance, and Bachchan-adulation packed into two hours.
Here are few aspects that clicked and others that did not.
A hot show
A hot show
- Big B was the top draw, and he played to the masses as expected
- The top prize is now Rs.7 crore. That's whopping, even by international standards, and whoever wins it will be going la-la to the banks
- Triguni, a panel of three experts, has been introduced in a new lifeline for participants in this season. In this episode, the third person was Vikram Joshi, a champion international quizzer.
- A new lifeline named 'code red' has been introduced. The contestant can take help of a friend or family member on whether to quit the show or not by pressing a button

A flop show
- Bachchan looked exhausted on the stage and his popular voice sounded not so charming. Perhaps, he had a cold.
- His equation with comedian Kapil Sharma appeared too scripted.
- The quiz format failed in an open-air scenario with the audience prompting answers with applause.
- Song and dance numbers, that too lengthy ones, performed by the Bollywood and Television stars along with the 'Dawat e Ishq' team were tad too long.
- Is the portrayal of extreme adulation for Big B adding to the TRPs, or is the audience already jaded with it?
